Mavka Watches 24”x24”

As moonlight spills over the forest canopy, a spectral figure emerges from the shadows—silent, soaked, and still. The Mavka, a spirit born from sorrow and betrayal, crouches near the river’s edge, eyes locked on a distant wooden house glowing with warm amber light.

Once, perhaps, that house was her home. Or perhaps it now belongs to the one who led her to her death.

The trees seem to whisper warnings, while unseen eyes glint from the underbrush. This painting captures a night after her death but before vengeance—when her soul, unable to move on, becomes part of the forest itself.

Look closely—beneath the surface of the water, behind the flowers, in the carved bark of the trees—you may glimpse fragments of her story. But be warned: in Slavic lore, Mavkas don’t just watch. They remember. And they lure.
